About this programme
The MSc Data Science programme is designed to provide students with advanced expertise in analysing, managing, and interpreting large-scale data to solve real-world problems. The programme combines concepts from artificial intelligence, data analytics, statistics, database technologies, and computational methods to develop highly skilled data professionals.
Students will explore key areas including Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining and Informatics, Data Science, Data Visualisation, Database Systems and Security, Network Analysis and Optimisation, Statistics for Data Science, Research Methods, and the MSc Data Science Project.
Through practical learning, research activities, and industry-focused applications, students will develop the ability to collect, process, analyse, and communicate complex datasets effectively. The programme emphasises analytical thinking, technical problem-solving, and the application of modern data technologies to support strategic decision-making.
The MSc Project enables students to conduct independent research in a specialised data science area, applying appropriate methodologies to investigate challenges and develop innovative solutions.
Graduates will gain the expertise required to work in data-driven environments across sectors including technology, finance, healthcare, telecommunications, business intelligence, and research
What you will learn
1. Apply Artificial Intelligence Concepts and Technologies
Students will understand artificial intelligence principles, intelligent systems, and emerging AI technologies. They will evaluate how AI can be applied to solve complex problems and improve decision-making processes.
2. Analyse and Extract Knowledge from Large Data Sets
Students will develop skills in data mining, information extraction, and analytical techniques to discover meaningful patterns, trends, and insights from complex datasets.
3. Apply Data Science Methodologies
Students will understand the complete data science lifecycle, including data collection, processing, analysis, modelling, evaluation, and interpretation for real-world applications.
4. Develop Effective Data Visualisation Solutions
Students will learn how to present complex information using appropriate visualisation techniques and tools to communicate analytical findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
5. Manage Secure Database Systems
Students will develop knowledge of database design, management, optimisation, and security practices required to protect and manage organisational data assets.
6. Analyse and Optimise Complex Networks
Students will explore network analysis techniques and optimisation approaches to evaluate relationships, improve performance, and solve complex system challenges.
7. Apply Statistical Methods for Data Analysis
Students will develop statistical knowledge required for data interpretation, predictive analysis, modelling, and evidence-based decision-making.
8. Conduct Independent Data Science Research
Students will develop advanced research skills by investigating specialised data science topics, applying appropriate methodologies, analysing results, and presenting professional conclusions.
